1. BEST OVERALL: GSI Outdoors 30 Fl Oz JavaPress French Press
Capacity: 30 fl.oz / 887ml
Dimensions: 4.5 in x 4.2 in x 7.7
JavaPress French Press is a lightweight, long lasting coffee press that is best for taking over camping or trekking adventures. This sensible piece of package is good for espresso fans at the cross.
JavaPress French Press makes 30 ounces of extremely good French Press espresso and rules the morning. Built for camping and travel – however definitely outstanding at home, too – this JavaPress is constructed tough and light, cleans up rapidly and clean, and makes excellent coffee.
The BPA-free, shatter-resistant carafe is constructed to take it, and a ballistics nylon comfy seals in the warmth and provides safety. The patented plunger makes use of a specifically designed silicone ring to maintain stray grounds from muddying up your brew, and the insulated lid snaps tight to keep the warmth and make pouring smooth.
2. BEST QUALITY: KONA French Press
Capacity: 34 fl.oz/ 1.5l
Dimensions: 4.2 x 5.2 x 9.3 inches
Material: Borosilicate glass
Although the Kona French Press is priced lower than its competitors, its design has features that make it stand out from other basic French presses. This product features a BPA-free handle with an ergonomic design that protects your hands from hot cups.
This outer shell helps insulate the glass and prevents the borosilicate glass body from breaking. The unique glass top is also shock resistant to sudden temperature changes and dishwasher safe. Most metal French press models have limited color options, but the Kona French Press is available in red or black.
A tightly woven filter prevents most of the grounds from getting through to the last cup of the morning. But this brewing method also maximizes the extraction of oils and flavors from the grounds to create a coffee with a rich flavor that conventional espresso machines cannot reproduce. Like all French Presses, you will need to grind the beans before using this appliance.
3. BEST CAPACITY: Womice French Press
Capacity: 34 fl.oz/ 1.5l
Dimensions: 6.1 x 4.7 x 8.7 inches
Material: Stainless steel
Made of 18/10 food-grade stainless steel that claims to be 33% thicker and 20% heavier than the competition, this tank of a press is ideal for situations where it might get knocked around. Small spaces, RVs, cubicles, etc.
The Womice is BPA-free, contains zero glass, and can take a beating – more so than traditional presses, anyway. With a double-layer vacuum structure, it’ll also keep your coffee warmer for longer than a glass carafe too, up to three hours.
The cool-touch handle means no more scalding your hands when you pour, and the 100-mesh filter screen keeps bitter grinds out of your cup. The unit also comes with extra screening parts as well for you to experiment with, along with a cleaning brush and scoop spoon. All are removable, easy to clean and dishwasher-safe.

1. Working principle
First, the French Press is a tool that uses the method of soaking and filtering. It’s basically just a coffee powder that’s completely soaked for a certain period of time in water. At the end of the steeping time, the coffee filtered through a membrane filter to extract the coffee and retain the coffee grounds.
All French Press have the same basic structure, including:
1 round cylindrical body of the jug, mostly tempered glass
1 cover with piston connecting rod
1 piston with circular filter with mesh structure made of stainless steel
By mixing hot water with coffee powder in the jug for 3-4 minutes, compress the plunger to press the coffee grounds down. And pour the coffee into the cup and you are done with the coffee making process.
The filter layer is usually made of stainless steel, which can cause some coffee beans to slip through the mesh and into your cup. Some brands will equip themselves with a few additional filter layers such as an extra layer of paper or cloth filter, or a cover with an additional filter layer… However, no paper means no additional costs and paper waste.
Most French Press coffee makers are made from 2 materials: Borosilicate glass and stainless steel. A glass jug is nice, but it won't keep your coffee warm. However, many people still prefer to use glass French Press. Because in addition to making coffee, we also see what our coffee will look like when brewed. A stainless steel French Press gives you more control over the temperature for a longer period of time, and this can be better for the bartender.
There are a few standard sizes for your choice: 300ml, 600ml, 900ml. If you make it for yourself, you should choose 300ml. And if you want to use more and make coffee for your friend, 600ml will be the most suitable.
1. Why is the French Press not good for you?
The bottom line is that French press coffee made without a paper filter, may slightly raise cholesterol levels; what's more, drinking large amounts of unfiltered coffee has been linked to heart disease.
2. Why does the French Press need more coffee?
Steeping doesn't exert any pressure on the coffee grounds. The plunger makes little difference, and it generally filters the coffee. For this reason, it's always better to use more coffee than we use too with drip coffee.
3. What is the appropriate temperature of the water for French Press?
Both drip and French press coffee taste better with water off the boil. For French press coffee, this is crucial because the brewing process takes longer.
